Thurmont’s Main Street Manager

The Town of Thurmont is pleased to announce the hiring of Nancy Gregg Poss as the town’s Main Street Manager. Poss was hired after a lengthy search to fill the vacancy created by the resignation Vicky Grinder in the summer of 2008.
Mayor Marty Burns stated, “Ms. Poss is an exceptional addition to our town as she she has an extensive background in local government which gives her invaluable insight and understanding to the challenges we face.” He added, “We look forward to her expanding on the Main Street Manager program and continuing it's extremely successful ability to bring grant money back to the town, and specifically to working with, and strengthening businesses in this tough economic time.”Bill Blakeslee, Thurmont’s Chief Administrative Officer stated, “We are very excited and
fortunate to have a person of Nancy’s background, expertise and most
importantly enthusiasm join our staff and head the Main Street program.”
John Kinnaird, acting President of Thurmont’s Economic Development Committee agreed with Blakeslee’s statement saying, “Nancy is a welcome addition to our Main Street program. Her experience and enthusiasm will serve her well and help Thurmont’s Main Street move forward to a successful future.”

Our First Grant:
Within weeks of being named as a Main Street Community we applied for and were awarded a matching grant from the DHCD.  The grant will be used for Main Street signage, public seating downtown and for a project to improve the cross walks at the square.  The value of the grant is $4,000.00 and the Town of Thurmont has agreed to support our effort by funding the seed money.
